EFL Cup 16 down to 8 26th Oct

Southampton 1-0 Sunderland

Sofiane Boufal’s amazing goal in the second half gave Southampton the push they needed to beat Sunderland 1-0 and insure their progression to the quarter finals in the EFL

Boufal, who is the most expensive signing for Southampton, certainly showed his worth tonight producing a brilliant goal in the 66th minute leaving Jordan Pickford without a chance.

With Sunderland not winning a game this season and being stuck bottom of the league with 2 points its really piling on the pressure for David Moyes, It also doesnt help the atmosphere when he gets sent to the stands for arguing with the officials over a penalty appeal just before the match ended.

Sunderland decided to make four changes from the side that lost out to west ham where as Southampton decided to change nine of their players from the side that held a draw from Manchester City on Sunday.

Manchester United 1-0 Manchester City

Juan Mata made sure that United were going into the last 8 of the EFL Cup drilling a goal in at the 54th minute.

Jose’s team needed a win after their latest matches, sitting only 7th in the Premier league the situation was getting bad to worse from the ex Chelsea manager.

Pep Guardiola is also having a bad run after having City failing to win in their last 6  games of all competitions. United managed to pull the long straw with their next draw to host West Ham in the next round.

Manchester United and Manchester City have met 173 times for the  derby but this one has an unusual start as Jose issued an apology because of their display at  Stamford bridge for poor performance

West Ham 2-1 Chelsea

West ham shocks as they knock Chelsea out of the ELF winning 2-1

It took only 11 minutes until the hammers took the lead with a brilliant header from Kouyate by a cross off Mark Noble.

There was trouble just before the early goal with missiles thrown around and fighting in the crowd. Police were allowed into the stadium for the first time to break up the fighting from the West ham fans.

Chelsea tried to regain some honour with a last minute goal from Cahill but it was too little too late.
