Cristiano Ronaldo was named the FIFA’s Best Men’s Player for 2016 at the maiden Best Fifa Football Awards in Zurich.
The 31-year-old, Real Madrid and Portugal forward beat Barcelona’s star Lionel Messi. Further, Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann was also nominated in the category.
Rocket Ronaldo also won the Ballon d’Or in December. Both the honors were given to him for success in the Champions League with Real and Euro 2016 with Portugal.
On the other hand, world’s best female player went to Carli Lloyd of the United States.
Leicester’s Claudio Ranieri bagged best men’s coach while ex-Germany manager Silvia Neid won the female coach award. Furthermore, Penang’s Mohd Faiz Subri took the Puskas award for the best goal of 2016.
The statue of Argentina and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi in Buenos Aires was vandalized on Monday.
The structure was found missing its top half.
Moreover, the statue was constructed in an attempt to convince Messi to return to the Argentina’s national team.
Officials from the Buenos Aires city government said that the figure of Lionel Messi fell victim to an act of vandalism that left the footballer’s statue without its top half part. However, its restoration has already started.
