Formula One team Sauber have officially unveiled their 2017 season car on their celebration of 25 years in the racing world.
The Swiss team released pictures of the blue, white and gold colored and Ferrari-powered C36 on its official website.
As a consequence of the new technical regulations, the Sauber C36-Ferrari has been remastered from scratch, not a single component is installed from its predecessor C35
With work on wider- body, tyre, and front and rear wings, the new machine is focused on reducing the drag coefficient (due to the wider tyres) to a minimum along with achieving a significant weight reduction. ( minimum weight has been raised to 728kg (incl. Driver, tank empty).
To sum up, the car will be able to produce more downforce, more grip resulting in faster lap times.
Speaking about Team’s technical director Jorg Zander said that the team has put greater emphasis on aerodynamic stability as opposed to maximizing downforce.
Further, Zander added that Being able to get started early and defining the engine environment was an advantage because the team[Sauber] was familiar with the engine and the transmission as well as the cooling requirements the engine entailed.
Sauber F1 Team’s new owner, Longbow Finance S. A. will kick the new era of the team in the 2017 FIA Formula One World Championship with driver Marcus Ericsson and the recently hired 22-year-old Pascal Wehrlein.
The official track debut of the new Sauber C36-Ferrari will take place on the first winter tests at the Circuit de Catalunya, Spain from 27 February to 2 March.
With Wehrlein ruled out for the tests due to medical advice for a back injury, which he suffered at Race of Champions this year, Swedish Marcus Ericsson will try his hands on the brand new beast.
