Yamaha has emerged as the first MotoGP team to launch its 2017 edition bike. The Japanese manufacturer revealed a revised gear for its new YZR-M1.
The 7-time world champion Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales will race the 1000 cc mean machine this season. Moreover, the bike was showcased during a launch event at title sponsor Movistar’s headquarters in Madrid on Thursday.
A new makeover was also flaunted, featuring a deeper shade of blue and more celebrated Movistar branding.
The 2017 season marks Rossi’s fifth line-up at Yamaha. Further, the Italian great have finished as runner-up in the podium in each of the last three seasons.
Rossi said that the important thing will be to make good races and to try always to be fast. Moreover, competitive enough to fight for the victory.
When asked about the bike Rossi said that they need to wait for first races also to understand the potential of the bike and potential of the rivals. The important thing to work is to be strong every Sunday.
Speaking about Vinales joining the team to replace Ducati-bound now rival Jorge Lorenzo, Rossi said that in their team (Yamaha), he got used to having a strong teammate with Jorge.
22-year-old Vinales made his public debut in Yamaha colors at the launch. Moreover, he shifted gears in his partnership with the team by leading in the post-season testing at Valencia last November.
The Spaniard is also said to have overwhelmed the team during private testing at Sepang later in the month.
Rossi and Vinales will get their hands on to ride the 2017 Yamaha at the first official pre-season test of the year at Sepang, which starts off on January 30.
