Los Angeles is coming off a 3-1 series loss to Minnesota Twins.
As the Angels open a six-game road trip, they travel to Detroit for a three-game series against the Tigers. Los Angeles will send right-hander Jesse Chavez (4-6, 4.68 ERA) in the series opener. Chavez will be making his 12th start of the season; he has thrown 11 straight 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run against the Tigers. In his last start against Detroit in 2015, he allowed one run (unearned) on five hits and two walks over eight innings.
Mike Trout, who made home runs in three of four games against the Tigers in May is out due to a ligament tear in his left thumb and will be back after six to eight weeks of rest.
After downing the White Sox in the first two games of their series at Comerica Park, Tigers captured the series finale with a 7-4 walk-off win on Sunday.
