Giro d’Italia 2017 Stage 12 kicks off on 18th May 2017, 7:05 AM EST in the central city of Romagna- Forli. The stage covers a distance of 229 KM, which is huge as compared to the previous stage of 38.9 KM but the route is flat most of the part. The stage meets its end in Reggio Emilia.

Starting from Forlì, the stage features two uncomplicated climbs in the first part (Colla di Casaglia and Valico Appenninico, KOM points). Crossing the feed zone at Lago di Bilancino, the route takes the A1 motorway and passes through a couple of well-lit tunnels, both up- and downwards. Next up is an intermediate sprint in Sasso Marconi, the route flattens out on wide and straight roads but includes a series of roundabouts. The final kilometers to Reggio Emilia are on wide and well-surfaced roads consisting of roundabouts, traffic dividers, and pedestrian islands. The home straight of 350-m long and 7-m wide is made of asphalt road.
