Djokovic, Nadal adavances in the Mexican Open

Serbian heavyweight Novak Djokovic silenced Slovakia’s Martin Klizan6-3, 7-6 (7/4) in the 1st round of the Mexican Open a.k.a Abierto Mexicano Telcel at the Mundo Imperial Acapulco Princess.

The world No.2 stepped into the court for the first time since his ‘i didn’t see that’ defeat in the second round of the Australian Open by unseeded wildcard player Denis Istomin in Jan.

Djokovic managed to save four break points clinching the first set. In the second set, Djokovic broke Klizan in the opening game standing at 2-0, but the Slovak fought back and broke Djokovic twice leveling at 4-4. However, Djokovic handled the pressurized the tiebreaker with ease to be awarded a match point to win the game.

The top-seeded Djokovic will face Argentinian Juan Martin Del Potro next, who dispatched American Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (1).

On the other hand, ‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal showed no scars of the AO final defeat at the Mexican campaign with a comfortable first-round win against Mischa Zverev. The two-time Acapulco winner knocked out the 29 -year-old German 6-4, 6-3 in a game which lasted just 76 minutes.

Nadal with an 11-0 Mexican record will face Italian Paolo Lorenzi in the next round.
