According to a new report published by Githyp, the American video game company Value’s Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive games topped Steam’s most played list for 2016. Moreover, Githyp is a tool that tracks Steam’s most popular games.
Dota 2 was Steam’s most played game last year too. This year it is averaged at 636,607 players per hour. Valve’s first-person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive bagged the second place with an average of 350,600 players per hour. Further, this number is displayed on the Githyp tool although the article mentions an average of 360,600 players per hour.
Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive took the top spots in 2015 as well, making this the second year in a concession that the two games topped the charts. However, CS: GO has seen a decline in its user base when extracting data from Githyp’s yearly charts, where Dota 2 saw an increase:
Both Dota 2 and CS: are part of the main esports events scheduled throughout 2017. Further, the big event Coming up for Dota series is the Kiev Major 2017. It is expected to take place from April 20-23 in Kiev, Ukraine. The event will see a whopping $3,000,000 cash prize in total.
For CS: GO, the ELeague Major kick starts on January 22 and will feature 16 teams.
