Olympique Lyonnais’s manager, Bruno Génésio, has expressed his positive insights about Nabil Fekir.
He believes in the Lyon team captain’s abilities to deliver his team as the winners of the 2019 Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League Final.
Génésio cited that the homegrown soccer player is very much prepared for the important game and to pursue the final 16 berth of the Champions League.
The French professional football coach highlighted Fekir’s position being the team captain of Lyon and a very significant contributor in the group.
Génésio shared what he had in mind following the success of his team in securing their final qualifying position during the knockout level of the Champions League on Wednesday.
Lyon braved the freezing winter in Kiev, cementing their post in the last 16 place as Fekir made a decisive goal during the second half against Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Ukrainian professional football team’s forward, Junior Moraes, may have helped his team stay initially on top of the game for over 40 minutes alongside his teammate, Andriy Pyatov.
The unshakable goalkeeper of Shakhtar Donetsk successfully denied Lyon forward, Bertrand Traore’s, shot.
But in spite of this unsuccessful attempt by the Burkinabé footballer, his team carried on with its domination, recording 14 shots against two of the Ukrainian football team prior to Fekir’s scoring.
Lyon’s forward, Memphis Depay, scored and nullified Pyatov’s defenses. Above all, Fekir’s strike canceled out the 22nd-minute opener of Moraes for his team.
The Lyon team captain’s left-footed kick into the top corner equalized the score on the 65th minute, earning his team what it deserved.
Génésio has been expecting his team to secure hold of the first UEFA Champions League final 16 position in seven years.
The knockout-round opportunity had eluded Lyon since the 2011 to 2012 competition. Apparently, the team had to deal with myriads of detours and distractions.
With Wednesday’s victory against Shakhtar Donetsk, Génésio desires his team of young football stars to concentrate on the games.
Lyon’s manager cited that as a team, they are aware of their capabilities to play “good football” regardless of who they are competing with and their venue. Hence, they have to give all their best.
