The Hawks have made their 10th straight playoffs appearance last season finishing 43-39. They bring a youth and inexpensive veterans to the new season, all of whom can give their all for the competitiveness and their pride.
Big names on the roster this season are rookie John Collins, who proved in the preseason outings that he can dunk from anywhere, second-year wing Taurean Prince can lead the team from the 3 point arc, and second-year player Dennis Schroder who could come out as the team’s starting point guard.
Ready for his 20th NBA season, Dirk Nowitzki will be leading the Mavs on Wednesday, who missed the playoffs last season with a 33-49 record.
Dallas brings the burden of not winning a postseason series since they took the NBA title in 2010-11. Coming off a 4-2 preseason campaign, they won a 108-94 game against the Hawks, the Mavs will try to build on things that kept them going during the preseason. Harrison Barnes led the Mavs scoring going in those games but let’s see what he does in the regular games.
Mavs fans in particular and the NBA overall will be expecting high of the Mavericks first-round pick rookie guard Dennis Smith Jr. in his debut game on Wednesday night. Dennis scored in double figures in four of his five preseason outings and shot 47.4 percent from behind the arc and most importantly gave hints of advanced playmaking skill to be Mavs’s future face.
