LeBron James is often compared to Michael Jordan not because of their similar styles, but because at a certain point in the game, great players can only be measured against one another and Michael Jordan is a definitive bar.
James, speaking ahead of Thursday’s game against Boston, enlightened on the hype linking him to the great Bulls legend. Chicago Bulls won six NBA championships during MJ on board.
However, LeBron’s and MJ’s games are not the similar. When asked about these similarities,
LeBron said that “No. He (Jordon) was much more of a scorer, at that point did a lot of post work, but our games are just different. His Body is different, my body is different than his. You recognize the dominance in someone at that age, but there’s no similarities in our game at all ”.
When questioned about similarities in fadeaways, LeBron said “Our shots are different. He (Jordon) had much more lift in his fadeaway than mine. That was a go-to move of his, but our games are completely different”.
LeBron speaks to the point. Jordan had a more consistent jump shot from an early age and used that as a weapon. Moreover, his footwork made him dangerous in the post much earlier. On the other hand, LeBron is more athletic and can bully his way to the basket against anyone, then uses that insane first step and strength to open up the other areas of his game. MJ was the better scorer; LeBron is more gifted and a natural passer.
Putting aside these so-called “similarities’ LeBron and Michael are the best the NBA has ever seen.
