Daniel Norris of the Detroit Tigers needs to polish his performance in the next games of his team.
On Sunday afternoon, the left-hander was seen playing at a Grapefruit League match that was dominated by the New York Yankees, winning with the final score of 7-1.
During the spring training outing at the George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida, Norris appeared to be overwhelmed by the lineup of New York Yankees hard-hitters.
They included right fielder Aaron Judge and outfielder Brett Gardner. In the first inning, Judge and Gardner hit consecutive home runs.
Then, in the second inning, the Yankees outfielder added a second home run off Norris.
The 25-year-old baseball player, who has been with the Detroit Tigers for nearly four years, already, permitted three runs plus four hits in 1 2/3 innings in the spring training.
Based on the evaluation of baseball analysts, the latest performance of Norris certainly needs improvement.
In the bottom of the second inning, he gave up another homerun which was the second for the day of Gardner.
Norris appeared to be obviously disappointed with the way he played and remarked that he was merely attempting to “throw strikes and stay out of the middle of the zone.”
He admitted that he was not performing well during the day’s match as he was pummeled by three solo home runs during his short outing.
Last baseball season, his home runs per nine innings leaped from 1.06 in 2017 to 1.62. The Detroit Tigers’ starting pitcher is vying for a spot in the rotation of his team.
For the past few days, Norris has reportedly been battling an illness. In 2016, he was prevented from playing due to vertebrae and oblique concussions.
Then, a year after that, he struggled with groin and quad injuries. In May last year, Norris underwent surgery for his left groin.
He is expected to perform better in the upcoming games of the Detroit Tigers.
On Monday, Norris and his team will go head-to-head against the Saint Louis Cardinals at the Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida.
Then, on Tuesday at the same venue, they will play against the Toronto Blue Jays.
