It was a disastrous postseason debut for AL Cy Young Award candidate Chris Sale as he allowed seven runs and nine hits in five-plus innings in his start for Boston in the game 1 loss.
Boston will send Drew Pomeranz to make the start in game 2. The left-hander carries a 17-game win record of the 2017 regular season into the playoffs. However, this will be Pomeranz’s first career postseason start so some pressure will be there upon him.
Red Sox will be without table-setter Eduardo Nunez who fell to the ground trying to make a run-out and sustained a right knee injury in game 1. He is out of the playoffs. Outfielder Chris Young will be replacing Nunez on Boston’s ALDS roster.
Second baseman Jose Altuve led the way for the Astros hammering three-homers in the game 1 victory. Astros starter Justin Verlander gave an amazing start to Astros limiting Red Sox to two runs and six hits through his six innings
The Astros also sends a Left-hander Dallas Keuchel to take the ball in playoff Game 2 on Friday. Keuchel was 14-5, posting a 2.90 ERA in the regular season and seems to be the right choice after Justin Verlander’s amazing spell in game 1 win. In two career playoff starts, Keuchel is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA.
