The Indians’ right-hander Carlos Carrasco threw 6 1/3 strong innings, while Edwin Encarnacion hammered a three-run homer and Yan Gomes contributed three RBIs in an 8-1 in the series opener against the first-place Twins, Friday night at Target Field.

Cleveland will send left-hander Ryan Merritt from Triple-A Columbus to make the start the first as the series continues against the Twins at Target Field on Saturday’s doubleheader. Expect standout rookie Bradley Zimmer (out of the starting lineup on Friday) to be back in the order. while right-hander Mike Clevinger will start in the night game.

The Twins head into a doubleheader on Saturday against the Indians, left-hander Adam Wilk starts the first game and fellow lefty Adalberto Mejia gets the ball in the night clash.

Wilk enters the game with 3.86 ERA against the Twins in his two relief outings.

Rookie Mejia will face the Indians for the first time. After four straight quality outings, Mejia saw a skid in his last against the Mariners allowing nine runs (eight earned) over 3 2/3 innings.
