Super-middleweight unification fight: James DeGale vs. Badou Jack

James DeGale

A unification fight between WBC champion Jack and IBF world champion James DeGale is set for January 14, 2017. The fight will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The vacant The Ring title would also be at stake along the WBC and IBF titles.

In a recent statement, DeGale said that he is looking forward to coming face-to-face with Jack at Friday’s weigh-in to know what his opponent is all about.

DeGale won the vacant IBF super-middleweight title against Andre Dirrell in 2015 on North American soil. The Brit retained his IBF title for the second time against Rogelio Medina in April 2016.

Moreover, the 2008 Olympic Gold medallist is confident of continuing the winning streak on Saturday.

Survival of the fittest

On the other hand, Jack is sure that he has plenty of advantages coming into the unification fight with DeGale.

To a question on a media conference call, Jack said he is the smarter and more fundamentally sound fighter. Also, a more technical fighter than DeGale.

Further, Jack is promoted by former pound-for-pound legend, Floyd Mayweather.

In fact, DeGale is ranked as the No. 1 168-pound fighter by The Ring Magazine whereas Jack is ranked No. 2 on the list.

Both fighters have peaked in recent fights, with each man holding the world championship in 2015. Further, there are other similarities between the two including a slew of common rivals and a shared Olympic appearance.

Jack took his WBC super middleweight title from power punching Anthony Dirrell in April 2015.
