Mirsad Bektic, who is undefeated in the featherweight division will take on Darren Elkins at UFC 209 on March 4. The UFC announced the lineup on Tuesday. The fight will be pay-per-view and will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bektic (11-0) is widely considered to be one of the promising prospects in the 145-pound category. The 25-year-old ATT outcome has stacked up a flawless 4-0 record under the UFC umbrella. Most impressive finishes being the back-to-back victory over Lucas Martins and Russell Doane.
Bektic’s latest victory over Doane in October was achieved in just four minutes. Moreover, this bout asserted that the young featherweight had finally returned to full strength following a 17-month silence due to a torn ACL injury. The mind-blowing comeback propelled Bektic into the No. 13 spot on the UFC’s media-generated rankings.
However, Bektic will now endure his toughest test yet when he takes on Darren Elkins (21-5). Elkins, a veteran out of Team Alpha Male is currently standing at No. 12 in the UFC rankings.
A longtime UFC featherweight, Elkins had gone through a bumpy ride with his career in 2013-2014 but has since emerged to capture three straight unanimous wins over Robert Whiteford, Chas Skelly, and Godofredo Pepey. Elkins has an overall 11-4 record in the UFC.
Furthermore, A lightweight bout between blue-chip contender Lando Vannata and David Teymur is also lined up in the UFC 209. In addition, a tentatively scheduled heavyweight clash between Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem is pending as Hunt’s negotiations with the UFC is in the process.
