Ben Affleck has landed the role of a father in the upcoming movie adaptation of “I Am Still Alive,” a book by Kate Alice Marshall.
The movie project presents the Hollywood celebrity as a supporting character actor and not on a lead role as what he has accepted in most of his films.
In the 2016 movie, “The Accountant,” Affleck played the hero and as Batman or Bruce Wayne in the 2017 superhero film, “Justice League.”
The 46-year-old actor and filmmaker is, apparently, interested in trying a different role in “I Am Still Alive.”
This brewing project would be a breakaway or a divergence from the leading roles that he has usually portrayed.
In addition, Affleck is discussing the wilderness drama’s production via Pearl Street Films. This is the movie production establishment which he co-founded alongside his fellow “Good Will Hunting” co-star, Matt Damon.
Universal Pictures has obtained the rights in transforming the Marshall’s literary work into a movie. Writer and producer Lori Evans Taylor will adapt the novel on screen.
Published in 2018 by Viking Books for Young Readers, “I Am Still Alive” centers on the life of a teenage girl named Jess. Her mother has passed away after a car accident.
Left with no choice, Jess had to settle with his survivalist father who lives in a cabin located in Canada’s remote wilderness.
She has not seen him for more than ten years. Unfortunately, just as she was starting to learn more about her father, he gets murdered, leaving Jess completely orphaned in the forest.
Jess is seeking payback time to obtain justice for her father’s killing. The film will show how the adolescent girl will survive on her own by hunting for food, keeping herself warm, and maintaining her shelter.
With only her father’s dog to keep her company, the movie will present the most important learning that Jess will have in her difficult life experience: That she is stronger than she ever thought she could be.
At this point, the actress who would portray as Affleck’s daughter in “I Am Still Alive” is yet to be announced.
In this upcoming film project, Affleck will be a part of what appears to be a blend of two famous Hollywood films.
These are the 2014 adventure drama movie, “Wild,” starring Reese Witherspoon, and “The Revenant,” released in 2015 featuring Leonardo DiCaprio.
