TOA PAYOH, Singapore – Harvey Weinstein unexpectedly lets go of his position in the Weinstein Company Board after receiving a series of backlashes from people. He has been accused of multiple allegations of sexual harassment and abuse.
After years of the disgracing allegations, he finally decided to step down last October 17. The Weinstein Company was already slowly departing from the tycoon, but it was only this Tuesday that Weinstein made a decision to step down.
Weinstein was already terminated as the director of the Weinstein Company last October 8. However, he remained on the board until Tuesday when he decided to let go of his position on the board, too. An acquaintance of the former director stated that Weinstein left their board meeting right after the discussion regarding the legality of his company.
The Weinstein Company just recently disclosed that they are having a deal with Colony Capital that will help the company clean its tarnished name. The company did not say specifically what the deal is all about, but they did say that they will be receiving a tremendous amount of money which will enable them to clear their name.
The case against Weinstein is more than just some petty allegations because over 40 female celebrities have already complained of sexual abuse or harassment. The disgrace filmmaker allegedly assaulted these women including Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Mira Sorvino.
The list does not stop there. The latest one to have complained about an undesired encounter was Lena Headey. The actress posted a series of tweets saying how furious Weinstein was when she told him that her only interest was in work matters.
There is no denying that he has brought pride and joy to the cinema world. The 81 statuettes and 300 Oscar nominations that his films had gotten over the years are only one of the dozens of proofs that his films are extraordinary. However, that did not keep him from being expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
