ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Cara Mund from North Dakota won the Miss America 2018 title after an impressive performance at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on Sunday night.
Cara Mund bagged the crown after competing against 50 beauties from different states. The pageant hopefuls went through four rigorous categories: Talent, Presentation and Community Achievement, Evening Wear, and Swimsuit. Furthermore, the candidates had been filtered through two sets of Question and Answer portions.
The 23-year-old stunner will officially start her reign with the traditional beach dip and a photo shoot in Atlanta City. Along with the crown and the prestige, she will go home with a $50,000 scholarship and a salary each month for the rest of her reign.
This feat has left a mark in the pageant’s history, as the new Miss America is the first winner from the Rough Rider State. North Dakota achieved Top 10 spots on three different occasions: Donna Grotberg in 1976, Tina Curran in 1988, and Roxana Saberi in 1997. Jacky Arness made it to the Top 16 in 2014 and she also won the Miss Congeniality award.
The Ivy League graduate is a dance champion in the nationals who had undergone Radio City Rockettes training. She choreographed her dance routine for the Miss America Talent Competition. Other than becoming the first titleholder for her state, Mund would also like to become the North Dakota’s first state governess.
Miss Missouri Jennifer Davis emerged as 1st Runner-Up, while Kaitlyn Schoeffel representing New Jersey came in at 2nd Runner-Up. Briana Kinsey from District of Columbia bagged the 3rd Runner-Up slot, and Miss Texas Margana Wood won 4th Runner-Up.
This year’s competition was hosted by Sage Steele and Chris Harrison. Cara Mund will be on tour every month to promote her advocacy, which is the Make A Wish – Passion with Fashion. The beauty queen was previously awarded for her charity works in 2011.
