The McNeese State vs Saint Mary’s game is up for 11:00 PM EST later tonight. The game will be going down at the McKeon Pavilion at Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga, California. In my bid to cover less popular games and give them exposure, this is my third game that I’ll talk about. Often these teams don’t get the attention, especially at the beginning of the season, amid all the hype of more popular matchups — which is legit. But ignoring these teams also puts a lot of question marks, so I’m going to do my best in order to highlight the less popular matchups. So, get ready for some non-conference season-opening college basketball later tonight!

The McNeese State Cowboys now have a new head coach in Heath Schroyer. Last season wasn’t good for the Cowboys. They ended the season with an overall 11-17 tally. They also were a part of a three-way tie for their 8th position in the conference. Thanks to the disappointing tiebreaker, they even lost the opportunity for the conference tournament.
All in all, last year was bad. This year? Let’s see.
They are ready to deploy new tactics, most hopefully. I also believe that they have made certain fundamental changes in their ranks that I wish they had last season. Nevertheless, a better offense or more powerful play on the court isn’t going to get them the win this time. The Gaels are strong and can easily overpower the Cowboys.
The Saint Mary’s Gaels want to build a strong portfolio early on. They will be looking forward to crushing their season-opening opponent with a comfortable win.
For a decent campaign this season, they don’t only need the win but another thing: a weapon in their ranks that can take on the biggest of foes and rivals. Let’s see whether they have that this time.
