Rhode Island is coming off a 24-21 loss in the annual Governor’s Cup game last Saturday night.
Leading the Rams defense is sophomore defensive end L.B. Mack III, who earned a STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention. But can he help the team to notch their second win? Mack gave an impressive performance against the Brown registering a career-high 10 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.
Island’s defense is their strength and has forced eight fumbles through five games. That ranks the Rams third in the country.
The Rams offense is led by senior Harold Cooper, who has recorded 351 rushing yards through the first five games of the season, ranking fifth in the conference.
Black Bears struggled against Villanova last week losing by a score of 31-0 on Saturday afternoon at Villanova Stadium. Maine is now 1-3 on the season and 0-3 in the CAA. The Black Bear offense totaled 227 yards in the loss.
Good performances came from Jaleel Reed who had six catches and 85 yards receiving to lead Maine. Also, Jaquan Blair and Josh Mack added four catches in the loss. But can the catching game save the day for Maine on Saturday?
Much will be expected of Micah Wright on Saturday. He notched three receptions for 39 yards in his first game of the season. In the Maine defense, Jaron Grayer led the Black Bears with 11 total tackles last week.
