The Montana Grizzlies turned a four-point advantage early into the game, flying to a 45-23 victory over Valparaiso in the season opener.
In his first start in nearly five years, quarterback Resse Philips, a transfer from Kentucky threw for 381 yards and completed 27-of-38 passes including four touchdowns. So the Griz’s QB position appears to be firm this season.
Senior safety Justin Strong has returned to the top of the depth chart this week. Strong’s experience in Pac-12 games could be useful against the Huskies on Saturday.
Jake Browing threw for two second-half touchdown passes to give the Huskies a 30-14 victory over the Rutgers on Friday night.
With Browning, one of the country’s top Heisman Trophy candidates taking charge at quarterback, the Huskies returned have been picked up to win the Pac-12 North Division again this year. He went 17-for-30 for 284 yards and two TDs at Rutgers.
Washington’s defense was unpenetrable in the years 2015 and again in 2016, and in the season opener once again they proved out to be the best in the country
