After a nailbiting victory over Georgetown Hoyas 74-74 in the first round, the St. John’s (14-18) hit the floor in Madison Square Garden for a BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal face-off against top-seeded No. 2 ranked Villanova Wildcats (28-3) on Thursday at noon.
Fox Sports 1 will be doing the national telecast with Justin Kutcher, Donny Marshall and Steve Lavin on the call.

The winner of St. John’s – Villanova proceeds to Friday’s semifinal at 6:30 p.m. against either No. 4 seed Marquette or No. 5 seed Seton Hall.

For a record 35th season in a row, the Villanova Wildcats will be playing in the BIG EAST Tournament. The Wildcats closed the regular season Saturday with an 81-55 victory over Georgetown Hoyas.

Senior guard leads the strongest team in the conference with 18.7 points (PPG), 6.5 rebounds (RPG), and 3.2 assists (APG)

St. John’s  Red Storm Team News

The one-point victory over Georgetown marked the first win in the BIG EAST Tournament for the Red Storm (14-18) since 2011.

Chris Mullin’s men will little be tried as they face the reigning national champions nearly 15 hours after knocking off the Hoyas in the first round.

Shamorie Ponds, the conference’s top freshman in terms of both scoring and steals, posted 17 points and five rebounds in the win against the Hoyas.

Bashir Ahmed added 14 points, five rebounds and two assists in that game.
